IN-PERSON RESPONSE AT THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The goal of this service is to break down the fear that prevents someone from calling us. We want to explain our services and get them connected to programs right away if they choose.

How it Works:

When someone presents at the University of Vermont Emergency Department for a domestic abuse related injury, their nurses will call our 24/7 Hotline to request an in person response.

We can open a file for them, providing emergency housing screenings, and transportation to either our Emergency Shelter, a motel, or alternate safe housing.

Impact So Far:

Steps to End Domestic Violence has provided three in-person responses already. These responses resulted in one support group referral and two new shelter residents. For all three of these individuals, this is the first time they accessed Steps to End Domestic Violence services.
